You’re not asking enough from God

30 days ago, I was on the other side of the world traveling with my family through five different countries for five weeks.

In France, we ate our body weight in meat and cheese. In Belgium, we did the same with beer and chocolate, and in England we ate the traditional Sunday roast dinner, complete with Yorkshire pudding.

But without a doubt, most enjoyable was: everywhere we went, and no matter who we were with and what we were eating, we were exchanging stories between bites, of all the amazing things we had seen God do in our lives.

There wasn’t a night we went to bed before 1 am, or where we laid our heads down to sleep without thinking to ourselves, Woah, God… you are amazing, after all the stories we heard and shared each night.

And God’s response… (well, to be honest, it surprised me)

He said, “…You haven’t seen anything yet.”

It was while I was reading a passage in the Bible that had me truly captivated by the amaziness of our God. (P.s. spellcheck is being a jerk and telling me ‘amaziness’ isn’t a word, and I’m telling it to shove it, because it should be.)

Job 26:7-10 says, “God stretches the Northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in His thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with His clouds. He created the horizon when He separated the waters; He set the boundary between day and night.”

Pause. God hangs the earth on nothing and created the horizon! He owns the freaking clouds! — how amazing is that? And the same could be said of the (amazing) things we have seen God do in our own lives, am I right?

I’ve had the opportunity to watch God do miracles in my marriage, when I was literally just hours from getting on a plane with my daughter and leaving my husband for goodI’ve seen with my very own eyes, how God multiplied my efforts and miraculously restored my marriage — So much so, that I can honestly say, I love my husband more today than I ever have in my life! (Which is a far-cry from the days I was praying God would hit him with a bus so I could have all the life insurance money. Sorry, babe! )

I’ve watched God provide in miraculously incomprehensible ways, as outlined here. (The latest being, the trip God sent us on to Belgium, France, The Netherlands, England and Wales, was FREE!)

I have seen God’s power deliver on His promises, and I’ve watched the Holy Spirit’s skill in piecing my life back together, stitch-by-stitch, into a greater life and calling that supersedes anything I was ever taught in Sunday School.

And yet, I can feel God challenging me in 2017, that I’m not asking enough from Him — That there’s so much MORE He wants to show me! (God told me to tell you, there’s so much more He wants to show you, too…)

Verse 14 goes on to say this, and after considering all of the amazing things God has done: “These are just the beginning of all that [God] does, merely a whisper of His power. Who, then, can comprehend, the thunder of His power?”

Don’t miss this: everything you have seen God do and every story you could tell of God’s greatness, is just the beginning of all that He can do!

“It’s only a whisper of my power,” God is saying.

Which is why God has challenged me in the New Year to ask for something I’ve never asked Him to do before: BRING THE THUNDER!!!

The question I want to ask you today is, do you want God to bring the thunder to your life this year? Or, if you were honest, are you content with just hearing Him whisper?

Truth is, a whisper is safer, more subtle, and soothing. Like God swooping you up in His arms and speaking tender promises over you.

But I don’t know about you, but in 2017 I’m believing for more! I want God to floor me. I want Him to blow my mind, make my jaw drop, and leave me lost for words when I come face to face with His power in my life.

The harsh reality about thunder though, is that it disrupts us, doesn’t it? It sends a jolt through our beloved normalcy, and uproots our perceived security. It startles us, even.

The question is, would it be worth it if we got to experience a power, a volume, and a magnitude of God that has been previously left untapped in our lives?

Maybe I’m getting delusional the older I get… (I’m turning 30 in a week, after all…) but THAT is what I want to experience from God this year. I want to be more than a spectator, more than just a bystander content with being on the receiving end of His tenderly whispered promises. I want to be front-row-and-center believing for His miracles. I want to watch God’s thunderous power unleash in my heart, in my marriage… I want to watch it sweep over New York City like a storm. And when it does, I want to be so close to the action that the fulfillment of His promises jolt like lightning through my veins.

Someone needs to hear this today: If the outcome of your prayers for 2017 don’t have you standing in awe of God, than you aren’t praying big enough — you are settling for a whisper when God has in His reservoir, a thunderous power ready-and-willing to work on your behalf.

Because everything we have seen God do up to this point, is at worst, wussy, and at best, merely a whisper…

“It’s nothing personal, I just have so much more I want to show you…” God is saying,

“…If you believe for more in 2017, I’ll bring the thunder.”

That’s a promise from God, and I’m taking Him up on it. Will you?

    1. Yep! With you. Safe is good, lol, but I can feel God calling me out of that safety and into something (so much) greater!
